A Practical Order of Operations for a Full Property Cleanout

The reason cleanouts drag on is almost always sorting. People start at the front of the garage, get into a box of photographs, and four hours later nothing has left the property. A cleanout goes fast when the sorting and the hauling are two separate passes.

Pass one is decisions only. Walk the property with a marker and tape and mark what stays. Everything unmarked goes. No boxes get opened, nothing gets carried, nobody gets sentimental in the middle of a driveway.

Pass two is loading, and it goes from the outside in. Yard debris, old fencing, and anything already outside comes first so there is room to stage. Then the garage or shed, then the interior, largest items first, because volume is what drives the number of loads.

Separate the three categories as you load: regular waste, metal, and anything with a special disposal path such as appliances with refrigerant, tires, paint, and electronics. Those cannot go in a general load, and finding that out at the transfer station costs you a trip.

Then sweep. A cleanout that ends with a swept floor and an empty drive reads as finished; one that ends with a dusty outline of what used to be there does not. If you would rather skip the whole sequence, that is what we do: we load it, we haul it, and we sweep up behind it.
